Isola(c)tion was an initiative that originated in Campiello del Lavander, a small Venetian square, which inspired the first part of the project on the Instagram platform, as a multi-disciplinary documentation of the experience of social isolation during covid.
Its concretisation in situ, on the other hand, involved the local population and the collective occupation of the street by its inhabitants, a clandestine happening that allowed us to involve those who really are the city’s beating heart, its residents and the many students who live there.
This time, however, the focus was on the object that gave birth to the idea of the project, the string of a clothesline, used on the Instagram account to trace the connections among artists. In the exhibition, these traced the collective work of the inhabitants of one of the last areas of Venice to be almost exclusively residential. It underlines how these lines, more than simple traces, are also symbols of a form of resistance that involves the strife to live in a city in which the local population appears not to be the administration's priority, becoming a performative act of protest to signal and celebrate our presence in the city.
