Divided in three parts, the first, Strike, attempts to gather the spirit of justice and revolution of the workers’ movements, in a collage of voices that goes beyond borders, accompanied by the collaboration of conceptual artist Joseph Kosuth commenting on his participation in the Art Workers Coalition. The second, Lament, is a chaotic whisper made up of the voices of the other interviewees, artists, researchers and my fellow art workers of the 59th Venice Art Biennale.
The third part, Ascend, is a compilation of phrases, quotes, musical lyrics, sans credits or bibliography, as an amorphous mass of collective knowledge free of copyright. These are fused together to become echoes of optimism, distant voices of a future which is no longer so distant.
The entire audio landscape wants to drown the listener in this sea of voices, which appear disconnected, which we tend to withhold, or at best whisper as they are too dangerous to be spoken out loud. Voices telling the truth, and that together form a generalised feeling of injustice and discontent. However, it also wants to build a world outside our own, that can be visited to gather energy, inspiration or wrath; a safe space and a battleground at the same time; a memento of a war that has not been won yet, but of which we already see the victorious end, one way or another.
The project’s music has been produced together with our friends and colleagues in Il Varco, an Indie rock band working between Mogliano Veneto and Venice.
